  • After his win at the Mubadala World Tennis Championships the real test for Rafael Nadal was against Alexandr Dolgopolov who was on a two-match winning streak. It was not to be for a third straight win despite actually breaking Nadal for a lead. The Spaniard extends his lead over him now 6-2.
  • Kyle Edmund will be back in action on Wednesday – he will face sixth seed Lucas Pouille who came through two tie-break sets against compatriot Gilles Simon.

WTA Brisbane Results & Quick Hits

  • Match of the day had to be No. 3 seed Garbine Muguruza battling past Daria Kasatkina in a real battle of wills. The first set was a feast of breaks, before Kasatkina pushed to level the match, but the Russian’s will to chase everything down brought the match to a thrilling tie-break.
  • The seeds were in fine fettle elsewhere – Karolina Pliskova [3] sailed past qualifier Asia Muhammad while Elina Svitolina had a bit of a fight on her hands against Genie Bouchard’s conqueror, Shelby Rogers.
  • The top two seeds Angelique Kerber and Dominika Cibulkova get their campaigns underway on Wednesday – could we be looking at a repeat of last year’s WTA Finals?
