- Grigor Dimitrov continued his resurgent form in the latter half of the year, coming back from a set down to beat Frenchman of the moment Lucas Pouille. He teamed up with Dani Vallverdu head of reaching the Cincinnati semi-finals.
- The rain clobbered the final line-up with Richard Gasquet [8] a set up but a break down in the second set to Pablo Carreno Busta, with Malek Jaziri and Milos Raonic [3] still to start.
- From a British perspective we have a mouth-watering repeat clash between Nos. 1 & 2 Andy Murray and Kyle Edmund for a spot in the quarter-finals.

WTA Beijing Results & Quick Hits
- British No. 1 scored her first win over Karolina Pliskova [5] and edged a step closer towards Singapore and the year-ending finals. Right now she is an alternate and a win tomorrow puts her in 9th
- Top seed and World No. 1 Angelique Kerber was stunned by Elina Svitolina in straight sets. Kerber looked fatigued and she might be well to drop out of Hong Kong next week ahead of the WTA Finals at the end of the month.
- Simona Halep [4] also stumbled as she was left standing in a bagel first set before being dispatched in straight sets by Zhang Shuai. The home-crowd favourite faces Konta for the third time this year, and second time in as many weeks.
- The rain has deprived Agnieszka Radwanska of knowing who her opponent is – She will face the winner of the match between Alize Cornet and Yaroslava Shvedova.

- Highest seed standing Gael Monfils [2] twisted his ankle but survived the injury scare to come back from 1-4 down in the second set to beat compatriot Gilles Simon in straight sets
- Gritty veteran and super-qualifier Radek Stepanek had to withdraw from his match sending the Aussie into the quarter-final.
- It was not all bad news for the ‘older’ generation – Ivo Karlovic [7] prevailed in a typically tie-break driven match – he faces Monfils who has not lost to the big-serving Croatian since 2009.
