ATP Shanghai Results & Quick Hits

  • Second seed Andy Murray eased into the third round to get past Steve Johnson but there was no joy for Kyle Edmund – he came up against an efficient Stan Wawrinka, despite Edmund putting up a little resistance in the second set breaking back after dropping to a set and a break deficit.
  • However it was not a good day for some of the seeds – Viktor Troicki beat Rafael Nadal for the first time in five previous attempts, with Tomas Berdych also bowing out at the hands of Marcel Granollers
  • Perhaps most perplexing of all was the manner of Nick Kyrgios’ loss to Mischa Zverev. He appeared to not try, declaring himself not bothered (in slightly more colourful stylings) about closing out his season on a high at the World Tour Finals.

WTA Linz Results & Quick Hits

  • Top seed Garbiñe Muguruza eased into the next round in Linz and a little closer to securing her spot in Singapore in a competitive match against Turkish No. 1 Cagla Buyukakcay – she sets up an intriguing clash with Monica Niculescu
  • Madison Keys launched her campaign to grab a spot in Singapore despite a flurry from Camila Giorgi. The fast courts are suiting her as she looks to keep ahead of her nearest rivals
  • Talking of whom Dominika Cibulkova is the one danger in the pack – currently in ninth spot, she like Keys nabbed a wildcard to boost her chances, as she sped past fellow wildcard Belinda Bencic. With just 10 points between her and Konta, each round will be keenly tracked and Cibulkova has a tournament in hand in the schedules, as she is scheduled to play in Moscow.
