WTA Miami Results & Quick Hits

  • The Great Escape? Johanna Konta pulled out all the stops as she halted a returning-to-form Simona Halep in a tight and edgy match to become the first British woman to reach the Miami Open semi-finals. She came from a set down to scupper the No. 3 seed.
  • Venus Williams continued her own resurgence, as she downed World No. 1 Angelique Kerber in straight sets, who admitted she was not moving at her usual defensive best.
  • So the semi-finals are set and first up will be Caroline Wozniacki v No. 2 seed Karolina Pliskova, with Konta and Williams up in the early hours of Friday morning for British audiences.

ATP Miami Results and Quick Hits

  • Rafael Nadal ended Jack Sock’s run in pretty sold fashion easing past him in straight sets as the Spaniard looks for his first Miami Open title.
  • Kei Nishikori’s unbeaten run against Fabio Fognini came to an end as the mercurial Italian beat an out-of-sorts-looking Nishikori in straight sets, to become the first Italian to reach the Miami Open semi-finals.
  • All eyes now will be on Roger Federer as he takes on Tomas Berdych with a commanding 17-6 head to head record over the Czech. The last time Berdych got the better of Federer was in the Dubai semi-final in 2013, but since then it has been one-way traffic for the Swiss and his form currently suggests that will not change.
  • Get ready for the ATP Next Generation? Nick Kyrgios has still courted a little controversy this tournament but he has been playing some solid tennis and for that he earns a match up with fellow rising star Alexander Zverev. The pair have only met once before, with Kyrgios taking the honours at Indian Wells this year, before pulling out at the quarter-final stage with suspected food poisoning.
