Tournament Results & Quick Hits

  • No. 5 seed Dominic Thiem clung on to his campaign despite being on the ropes against Andrey Rublev. He scrambled to save a match point in his comeback after injury which saw him skip the US hard court spring
  • No joy for ATP Marrakech finalist and British No. 1 Kyle Edmund – despite a fight back after dropping the first set to qualifier Andreas Seppi, the Italian surged away in the decider.
  • Lucas Pouille came a cropper to Mischa Zverev despite taking the first set pretty comfortably. Grigor Dimitrov also looked to be a seed in danger dropping his first set to Pouille’s compatriot Pierre-Hugues Herbert but rallied to progress.
  • It was left to Alexander Zverev to close out the day’s play, and he had to come from a set down against Gilles Muller but looked comfortable in the decider to join his older brother in the winners’ circle.
  • Court Rainer III is the hot ticket on Wednesday featuring Novak Djokovic who will have a far sterner test against Borna Coric, and Rafael Nadal starts his title defence against Aljaz Bedene.
