Kyle Edmund vs Denis Shapovalov [Q] H2H: Edmund leads 1-0
Denis Shapovalov will try to break British hearts for a second time in the same number of days as he faces highly-ranked Brit Kyle Edmund in the first round of the main draw at Queens.
There is a lot to love about Shapovalov. He really does get so much out of his left-handed serve, which is why it works so well on the grass, but he also plays with certain ease and his expressiveness on court is why he is greatly admired.
Edmund is a step up in class for the young Canadian though. This is just the second time that Shapovalov is playing in an ATP main draw, so he is still learning and still gaining in experience, whereas Edmund has had twelve months to settle into his newly-found status as an ATP regular. That makes a huge difference in this match up.
A key battle will be Shapovalov’s serve out wide to the Edmund backhand. That would be the implemented strategy I would use if I was Shapovalov, but the key is for Edmund to get his forehand into play as much as possible. The power of his forehand should guide him through a win against Shapovalov.
Prediction: Edmund in two sets.
