Konta doubles up in Vancouver

Vancouver, Canada- Johanna Konta doubles up in Vancouver taking both titles in the Odlum Brown Van Open, starting with the doubles and taking the singles too.

Konta had entered both the singles and doubles in Vancouver. In the doubles the Brit teamed up with Maria Sanchez, they progressed through the doubles draw without dropping a set. The closest they came was a couple of tiebreaks in the rounds, but the British/American pairing were determined and took the field apart. In the final they faced Raluca Olaru and Anna Tatishvili. The Romanian/American pairing came close to taking the first set from Konta/Sanchez as they forced a tiebreak, but they were unable to secure the set and the Brit/American won the breaker 7-5.

The second set saw the Brit/American pairing continue their great form, as they managed to get the break of serve needed to stay ahead of Olaru/Tatishvili. Konta/Sanchez took the win, taking the set 6-4 giving them the doubles title.

Konta was then in the singles final. Progressing to the final the Brit dropped just two sets on her way. In round two she lost the first set to Tatishvili before coming back to take the next two sets and the match. In the quarter final the Brit lost her second set of the whole tournament playing against Petra Martic of Croatia. The Croatian forced a second set tiebreak, after the first had gone to the Brit on also on a tiebreak.

Konta came back in the third set and managed to break the Croatian serve to take the win 6-3. The Brit would not drop another set and faced a Belgian in both the semi final and the final.

The final saw her face the top seed Kirsten Flipkens. Konta was in the zone and played a great match, the Belgian only won six games in the match giving Konta the double and seeing the Brit move back into the top 100. Konta now moves onto New York for US Open qualifying.
