Ward defeats Duckworth (7) 6-4 6-3, West Lakes Shore, Australia
James Ward successfully reached round two of the Charles Sturt Adelaide International by beating Australian James Duckworth on Tuesday.
The British number three beat the tournament seventh seed 6-4 6-3 in just over an hour and will face qualifier Sean Berman in round two on Thursday.
It is the second consecutive tournament that Ward, ranked 263 in the world, has faced and beaten Duckworth who is currently ranked 38 places higher.
American Berman is ranked 721st in the world but came through three rounds of qualifying before beating Ivo Klec in round one of this ATP Challenger Tour tournament.
