- Chelsea faces an uphill battle against Real Madrid
- Man City have a comfortable lead against Bayern
Europe – Chelsea has a lot to do if they are to progress as they are currently 2-0 down to Real Madrid. Manchester City on the other hand has a comfortable 3-0 to take with them to Bayern Munich.
Chelsea vs Real Madrid, Tuesday April 18, kick-off 20:00
Chelsea requires a great comeback if they are to get past a Real Madrid side that currently has a two-goal aggregate lead on them. A fightback that is reminiscent of the Blues side that won the Champions League in 2012 needs to be demonstrated.
Unfortunately, not many Chelsea fans will be optimistic. Frank Lampard has not had the best start to his second spell in charge of the club as they have lost all three of their games. However, the club legend’s return to Stamford Bridge for a Champions League fixture will hopefully lift the mood of the supporters.
Chelsea’s loss against Brighton this weekend was expected by many. Although, a positive was that at least the Blues finally scored a goal after four games without finding the back of the net. Conor Gallagher got the goal and the player will be relishing being coached by Lampard who like him is a box-to-box midfielder.
Real Madrid had a comfortable 2-0 victory over Cadiz in La Liga at the weekend, with Marco Asensio who scored against Chelsea adding another one to his tally for the season. Los Blancos are unlikely to catch Barcelona in the title race this year which will spur on Carlo Ancelotti‘s side to make sure they lift the Champions League trophy.
Score prediction: Chelsea 1-2 Real Madrid
Bayern Munich vs Man City, Wednesday April 19, kick-off 20:00
Man City should easily make their way to the semi-finals as they take a comfortable three-goal aggregate lead with them to Germany. Pep Guardiola‘s side cannot stop scoring at the moment as last weekend they defeated Leicester City 3-1.
Erling Haaland scored another brace against the Foxes and the Norwegian will be looking to add to his 11 Champions League goals so far this season against Bayern.
City is also still in the Premier League title race this season and the FA Cup, so they are on for a treble. Winning the Champions League will be most important to City fans though as it is the only trophy that currently eludes them.
Guardiola has been known to tinker with his squad at this stage of the competition. The manager must make sure he makes the right calls as his squad has an FA Cup semi-final against Sheffield United followed by a title-deciding league fixture against Arsenal after that.
Bayern has not had a great time since Thomas Tuchel took over from Julian Nagelsmann. They only managed a draw against Hoffenheim last Saturday which is a disappointing result for the Bundesliga leaders. There has also been unrest in their squad with Sadio Mane punching Leroy Sane after the first-leg defeat to City.
Score prediction: Bayern Munich 0-2 Man City
