UK – The transfer window has closed and now it is time for the new signings or players who did not get the moves they wanted to knuckle down and grind out some results for their teams.
Manchester United vs Arsenal, Sunday 4 September, kick-off 16:30
Arsenal who are the only team to have won all of their first five games take on Manchester United who after a very poor start have won their last three games.
The transfer window has now shut and as well as keeping Cristiano Ronaldo the Red Devils have added the signing of Brazilian winger Antony from Ajax. Arsenal has an inform forward of their own in Gabriel Martinelli who has three goals already this season.
This fixture is often a feisty affair and often brings back memories of when Roy Keane and Patrick Viera would clash in the early 2000s. We can expect to see a passionate game on Sunday.
Score prediction: Manchester United 1-1 Arsenal
Aston Villa vs Manchester City, Saturday 3 September, kick-off 17:30
Steven Gerard is under pressure at Aston Villa. his team are 19th in the division with one win and four defeats. There have been calls for him to be sacked although they did have a much-improved performance against Arsenal last time out. However, they still lost 2-1.
Manchester City sits in 2nd place and any slip-up from Arsenal and Pep Guardiola‘s side could go top. They are in tremendous goalscoring form with Erling Haaland already having nine goals to his name.
City won 6-0 against Nottingham Forest last time out so the Villans will be fearing the worst as City arrives at Villa Park this weekend.
Score prediction: Aston Villa 0-3 Manchester City
Everton vs Liverpool, Saturday 3 September, kick-off 12:30
The first Merseyside derby of the season sees Liverpool who has won their last two games take on Everton who sit in 17th place with no wins so far.
Frank Lampard is under pressure but will be happy that his side managed to keep hold of Antony Gordon amid interest from Chelsea. Gordan has scored in Everton’s last two games and could be the man to make the difference at Goodison Park.
Since their defeat to Manchester United, Liverpool has beaten Bournemouth 9-0 and won against Newcastle thanks to a 98th-minute winning goal from Fabio Carvalho.
Anything can happen in a derby so do not be surprised if we see an Everton win but Liverpool are the obvious favourites.
Score prediction: Everton 1-1 Liverpool
Chelsea vs West Ham, Saturday 3 September, kick-off 15:00
Chelsea is currently 10th in the league and needs a response after losing to Southampton on Tuesday night. Thomas Tuchel‘s side also lost to Leeds 3-0 earlier in the season and no Blues manager is never that many games away from the sack. However, things might not be so ruthless under new owner Todd Boehly.
West Ham comes into this fixture on the back of another London derby as they drew 1-1 with Tottenham Hotspur in a match they probably should have won.
The Hammers have recruited well in this window with nine new signings including that Brazilian star Lucas Paquetá. Chelsea finally managed to sign a forward in Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. However, the former Arsenal captain is set to miss at least three weeks to due a jaw injury.
Score prediction: Chelsea 1-2 West Ham
