UK – Last weekend saw some surprise results but Arsenal still top the division but Manchester City is close behind.
Chelsea vs Arsenal, Sunday November 6, kick-off 12:00
The league leaders Arsenal are unbeaten in their last six matches and smashed five past Nottingham Forest last Sunday. As for Chelsea, they suffered a 4-1 defeat to Brighton last weekend which was not the return Graham Potter wanted on his visit to the Amex as the Blues manager.
Potter’s side has now not won in the league for three matches draws against Brentford and Manchester United prior to the defeat to the Seagulls. After an impressive start to life as Chelsea’s manager, his team are currently in a bit of a blip. However, the 2-1 win over Dinamo Zagreb in the Champions League in midweek will have picked the Blues up.
The Gunners may be without Bukayo Saka, who limped off against Forest. However, his replacement Reiss Nelson showed he was an admirable replacement as he scored twice. Saka did get a run out in their 1-0 win over Zurich in the Europa League on Thursday night which is a boost for Arsenal and England.
Mikel Arteta‘s side knows that any slip-up would leave Manchester City who plays Fulham with the chance to take the top spot.
Score prediction: Chelsea 1-2 Arsenal
Tottenham vs Liverpool, Sunday November 6, kick-off 16:30
It will be a super Sunday as there is another giant clash between two of the so-called ‘big six’ teams. However, you can hardly call Liverpool super in their current form.
Jurgen Klopp‘s side has lost to Nottingham Forest and Leeds United in their last two league games. They are currently ninth in the division which is way off where a side of their quality should be. Klopp has spent seven years in his previous two jobs at Mainz and Borussia Dortmund. Given he is in his seventh year as the Reds manager the end could be nigh.
Tottenham ended a run of two defeats as they beat Bournemouth 3-2 last Saturday after being two goals down. Rodrigo Bentancur scored in extra time to claim that victory. Spurs are third in the division and need to keep on winning if they are to qualify for the Champions League next season too.
Both sides were victorious in Europe on Tuesday night, with Liverpool defeating Napoli 2-0 thanks to Mohamed Salah‘s and Darwin Nunez‘s goals. Spurs beat Marseille 2-1 with Pierre-Emile Højbjerg netting the winner in the 95th minute. A result that ensured Antonio Conte‘s side topped Group D.
At the moment, injuries are a worry for Spurs with Son Heung-Min needing surgery on his eye. Fellow forwards Richarlison and Dejan Kulusevski are also sidelined.
Score prediction: Tottenham 2-0 Liverpool
Manchester City vs Fulham, Saturday November 5, kick-off 15:00
Manchester City survived without Erling Haaland last week with a 1-0 win over Leicester thanks to a phenomenal free-kick from Kevin De Bruyne. It remains to be seen if Haaland will be back for this fixture but if it is not it gives Julian Alvarez another chance to impress. Alvarez may not have gotten on the scoresheet against the Foxes but he has two league goals this season.
Alvarez did score against Sevilla in a 3-1 win in the Champions League midweek which will be a huge confidence booster for the young Argentine. City’s youth was on show against the Spanish side with 17-year-old Rico Lewis also among the goals.
Fulham has had a very impressive start to the season as they currently sit seventh in the table. Last weekend they drew with Everton which meant that they are unbeaten in their last four games.
Their forward Aleksandar Mitrovic is showing that he can score in the Premier League. The Serbian has nine goals so far which puts him third in the charts only behind Haaland and Harry Kane.
Arsenal has a tough fixture against Chelsea so Pep Guardiola‘s side knows to keep putting pressure on the Gunners. Any blunder from Arteta’s side will see City go top.
Score prediction: Manchester City 2-0 Fulham
