UK – Arsenal vs Manchester City may have been postponed due to the Gunners’ involvement in the Europa League but there are plenty of other fixtures to keep us entertained.
Liverpool vs West Ham, Wednesday 19 October, kick-off 19:30
Liverpool goes into this fixture on the back of a phenomenal 1-0 victory over Manchester City. After a poor start to the season by Jurgen Klopp‘s very high standards, they showed in that game that they are still up there with the Premier League’s best.
Mohamed Salah got the only goal in the win over City, which was his fourth goal in his last two games, having also netted a hat-trick against Rangers in the Champions League.
After two great results since losing to the league leaders Arsenal, the Reds will be looking to continue their form as they face West Ham United on Wednesday night.
West Ham has had a mixed start to the season. Their Europa Conference League form has been perfect winning all four of their matches. In the Premier League, they currently sit in the 12th position. However, they are undefeated in their last three games.
David Moyes‘s side beat Fulham and Wolves but only managed a draw against Southampton last time out. Gianluca Scamacca and Jarrod Bowen scored in West Ham’s last two league victories, but they had to rely on a Declan Rice goal to claim the point versus the Saints.
Score prediction: Liverpool 3-1 West Ham
Manchester United vs Tottenham Hotspur, Wednesday 19 October, kick-off 20:15
Manchester United are currently fifth in the table and has a win over Everton and a draw against Newcastle since they were humiliated in the Manchester Derby.
The win over the Toffees was poignant due to Cristiano Ronaldo scoring his 700th club career goal. However, against the Magpies he had two goals disallowed and looked very frustrated as he was subbed off in the 72nd minute.
Tottenham goes into the game in great form as they have won their last two games since their defeat to Arsenal in the North London derby.
Harry Kane scored in wins over Brighton and Everton which takes his for the season to nine which is still six behind Erling Haaland. But with Manchester City not in action this midweek it gives the England captain a chance to catch up.
With a win, Spurs could leapfrog City and go just a point behind Arsenal. But United are at home and have stepped up in the big games at Old Trafford this season beating Liverpool and Arsenal on home turf.
Score prediction: Manchester United 1-2 Tottenham
Bournemouth vs Southampton, Wednesday 19 October, kick-off 19:30
Since Gary O’Neil took over from Scott Parker, Bournemouth has been on a run of six games unbeaten. This is remarkable given when O’Neil was appointed caretaker they had just lost 9-0 to Liverpool. Questions still lurk as to whether or not he will get the job permanently but he has definitely put in a great impression.
The most impressive victory of the O’Neil era came as they beat Nottingham Forest 3-2 after being two goals down at half-time. The manager was praised for his tactical nuance as he introduced Ryan Fredericks at the start of the second half and switched formation to a back three which turned the game around. His tactics in changing formation mid-game could come in very handy in a local derby where the games do not always go to plan.
Southampton managed a draw against West Ham in their last game. However, they have had a very poor start to the season with four straight losses before the point against the Hammers. Although they did beat Chelsea before their barren winless run.
Questions have been raised as to whether Ralph Hasenhüttl is still the right man for them. Anything can happen in a derby and we can expect a feisty encounter on the South Coast.
Score prediction: Bournemouth 3-1 Southampton
