Manchester City and Liverpool have dominated the Premier League recently with the title going to either club in the last six years. City have won five to the Reds’ one but Jurgen Klopp‘s side have been runners up twice also.

Whoever had won this game would have gained an early boost in contending for the league this year. However, the match ended in a draw and we now appear to have a three-horse race alongside these two teams and Arsenal.

Erling Haaland gave City the lead which was a relief for Pep Guardiola as it was thought the Norwegian could miss this game after getting injured on international duty.

Trent Alexander-Arnold rescued a point for Liverpool with a strike into the bottom corner. City is now second with Liverpool in third place.

With Manchester City and Liverpool only managing a draw, this allowed Arsenal the opportunity to go top of the division if they were to defeat Brentford.

The Gunners managed it thanks to a header from Kai Havertz in the 89th minute. Havertz has had a mixed time since arriving at the Emirates last summer but he is starting to repay the faith that Mikel Arteta has in him.

Arsenal’s next league games include winnable fixtures against Wolverhampton Wanderers and Luton Town. However, they then face their former manager Unai Emery and his in-form Aston Villa side.

Everton have recently been handed a ten-point deduction for breaching financial rules. It was thought that this would galvanise the club and that they could beat Manchester United at Goodison Park.

However, it seemed like the fans were up for it but the players were not. The Supporters held up pink cards in protest against their punishment and created an intimidating atmosphere.

The home crowd were silenced when Alejandro Garnacho scored a bicycle kick that will go down as one of the greatest goals in Premier League History.

Marcus Rashford from the penalty spot and Anthony Martial added further goals to ensure United a 3-0 victory. Eric ten Hag’s side is now sixth in the division.

Best of the rest

Aston Villa defeated Tottenham Hotspur 2-1 with the winner coming from Ollie Watkins. The result moves Emery’s side up to fourth in the league.

Newcastle destroyed Chelsea 4-1 thanks to goals from Alexander Isak, Jamaal Lascelles, Joelinton and Anthony Gordon.

The Premier League returns on Saturday, November 2.
