Everton has been in the top flight of English football for 69 years and they maintained this impressive run as they survived relegation with a victory over Bournemouth. Abdoulaye Doucoure‘s strike was enough to see off the Cherries who were already safe.

The final whistle saw Evertonians run onto the pitch at Goodison Park in celebration. This is the second year in a row that this has happened since the Toffees also claimed Premier League survival on the final day of last season. Back then Frank Lampard was in charge, who was sacked by the club earlier this season and was replaced by Sean Dyche.

Dyche has a contract until 2025 and so long as he is backed, should deliver stability to the football club. Everton plan to relocate from Goodison to Bramley-Moore Dock in a couple of years. They must ensure they are still in the Premier League if they are to fill a new stadium with a capacity of over 50,000.

As for Bournemouth they had nothing to play for in this game and finished the season in 15th place. Gary O’Neil has done a very good job after taking over from Scott Parker who deemed the team not good enough.

Leicester City beat West Ham United 2-1 but it was not enough as Everton’s victory ensured the Foxes’ relegation. It is remarkable for a team that won the Premier League just seven years ago to now be preparing for life in the Championship.

Harvey Barnes and Wout Faes both scored to give the Foxes a two-goal lead. However, the news of Everton leading Bournemouth dampened the feeling at the King Power stadium.

West Ham then got one back through Pablo Fornals who had come off the bench. Fornals was the super-sub who scored to seal the Hammers’ victory over AZ Alkmaar in the Europa Conference League semi-final. The midfielder scoring again will improve his chances of starting against Fiorentina in the final of the competition.

This match finished before the final whistle at Goodison Park, so the Leicester players were left waiting for their fate. The final score of Everton’s match eventually came through, which broke the Foxes’ hearts.

Leeds are going down

Leeds United were relegated after the Yorkshire side suffered a 4-1 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur. It was a bad day for both sides as Aston Villa’s victory over Brighton meant that Spurs finished 8th, so they will not even be in the Europa Conference League next season.

Harry Kane gave Tottenham the lead early on with a sweeping finish. Their advantage was then doubled soon after half-time as Pedro Porro fired into the bottom corner.

Sam Allardyce‘s side got one back through Jack Harrison. However, it was only a glimmer of hope at Elland Road as Kane then scored again. The victory was sealed when Lucas Moura in his final Spurs appearance scored after a great solo run.

Leeds were last relegated from the Premier League in 2004. It then took 16 long years before they returned, Leeds fans will be fearing the worse after going down after just three seasons of top-flight football.
