Leicester City 0 Arsenal 1
Arsenal ground out a second successive away victory as a goal from Gabriel Martinelli gave them a win at Leicester City. Leandro Trossard had a goal disallowed in the first half due to a foul from Ben White on Danny Ward. Leicester then had a goal from Kelechi Iheanacho chalked off for offside.
However, on 46 minutes the Gunners broke the deadlock. A subtle pass from Trossard played Martinelli in and he rolled the ball past Ward. Leicester struggled to find any rhythm, though Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall bent an effort just wide. Arsenal were not at their best, but found a way to win, and preserve their lead at the top. Leicester stay in 14th.
Bournemouth 1 Manchester City 4
Manchester City stay two points behind Arsenal at the top after a comprehensive win at Bournemouth. Pep Guardiola’s side took the lead on 15 minutes. Erling Haaland hit the bar and Julian Alvarez followed up to score. The lead was doubled 14 minutes later when a move involving Nathan Ake and Ilkay Gundogan ended with the German midfielder’s cross deflecting to Haaland off Phil Foden. The Premier League’s leading scorer made no mistake for his 27th goal of the season.
Then, six minutes after the interval, it was four. Foden found Alvarez, who smashed the ball against Chris Mepham and into the net for an own goal. Jefferson Lerma (83) fired in a consolation for the home side. City keep up the pressure at the top, while the Cherries are in 19th, a point away from safety.
Tottenham Hotspur 2 Chelsea 0
Tottenham Hotspur recorded their first win over Chelsea since their move to their new stadium and increased the pressure on Graham Potter.
Chelsea had won all three Premier League meetings between the sides at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. However, goals from Oliver Skipp and Harry Kane gave Spurs the win as Chelsea disappointed again.
Skipp crashed home a 20 yard effort on 46 minutes. And the victory was confirmed when Kane turned in an Eric Dier knockdown.
Spurs are in fourth position, four points ahead of Newcastle United who have played two games fewer. Chelsea are closer to the bottom three than the top four. The are Blues 10 points above the relegation zone and 14 points behind fourth-placed Spurs.
Leeds win basement clash, Gunners lead table
Junior Firpo’s second half goal gave Leeds United victory over Southampton in the relegation six-pointer at Elland Road. The win, in Javi Gracia’s first match in charge, lifts Leeds out of the drop zone and leaves the Saints bottom of the table. The other relegation places are occupied by Bournemouth in 19th and Everton in 18th. Six points cover the bottom seven teams.
Arsenal lead the table by two points from Manchester City, having played a game fewer. Manchester United and Tottenham complete the top four, with Newcastle United in fifth.
The midweek action sees the FA Cup fifth round and two Premier League fixtures as Arsenal play Everton and Liverpool take on Wolves. Premier League Matchweek 26 gets underway on Saturday March 4.
