Europe – Newcastle will be looking to build on the point they claimed at the San Siro in their last Champions League game as they host PSG on Wednesday.
Newcastle vs. PSG, Wednesday, October 4, kick-off 20:00
Newcastle are in great form going into this game having won their last three games in all competitions. This included Eddie Howe‘s side’s remarkable 8-0 thrashing of Sheffield United and knocking Manchester City out of the EFL Cup. They have shown they can hold their own against the biggest names in European football as they drew with AC Milan last time out in the Champions League.
Home advantage could be key in this tie as St James’ Park will be rocking as it welcomes back Europe’s premier football tournament. Alexander Isak -who has scored in each of his last three games- will be relishing this opportunity to test himself against Paris Saint-Germain.
It was thought that PSG would start playing more like a team after letting Lionel Messi and Neymar leave the club last summer. However, they could only muster a 0-0 draw with Clement Foot in Ligue 1 at the weekend. They are still second in the division and did win their opening Champions League game 2-0 against Borussia Dortmund.
With Messi and Neymar now out of the equation, Kylian Mbappe is once again the stand-out star at PSG. Although his future still remains uncertain at the club, it does not seem to be affecting him on the pitch as he has scored eight times in seven games already this season.
Score prediction: Newcastle 2-1 PSG
Man United vs. Galatasaray, Tuesday, October 3, kick-off 20:00
It is not looking good for Manchester United right now, their loss to Crystal Palace last Saturday leaves them 10th in the Premier League. They also lost their opening Champions League fixture 4-3 to Bayern Munich, a scoreline that flattered Eric ten Hag‘s side.
Questions are already being asked as to whether ten Hag is still the right man for the job. He will be shown the door if results do not improve. They have to bounce e back with a victory against Galatasaray on Tuesday night.
Galatasaray go into this game on good form, they are currently unbeaten and leading the Turkish Super Lig. Despite being two goals down, they also managed a 2-2 draw with Copenhagen in Matchday 1 of the Champions League.
This match also sees former United player, Wilfried Zaha, return to Old Trafford. Zaha’s time at the Red Devils never really got going but he will be eager to show them what he can do as he faces them in European competition for the first time.
Score prediction: Man United 1-1 Galatasaray
RB Leipzig vs. Manchester City, Wednesday, October 4, kick-off 20:00
Manchester City go into this game in remarkably bad form, having lost their last two games in all competitions. Newcastle knocked them out of the EFL Cup and then they suffered their first Premier League defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers.
This is unacceptable for Pep Guardiola‘s side and last year’s Champions League winners must return to winning ways soon. They did win their opening fixture of the competition 3-1 against Red Star Belgrade but their next opponent will offer a much greater threat.
RB Leipzig is currently fifth in the Bundesliga having won their last four games. They also won 3-1 in Matchday 1 of the Champions League as they defeated BSC Young Boys.
Score prediction: RB Leipzig 2-1 Manchester City
Other British teams involved
Arsenal beat PSV Eindhoven 4-0 in their opening Champions League game face against Lens this Tuesday. Mikel Arteta‘s side go into this game in good form having also won 4-0 against Bournemouth at the weekend.
Score prediction: Lens 0-2 Arsenal
Celtic are currently leading the Scottish Premiership but suffered defeat in their first game of this season’s Champions League as they were beaten 2-0 by Feyenoord. They will be looking to get points on the board as they play Lazio on Wednesday.
Score prediction: Celtic 1-1 Lazio
