The weather improved as Team GB faced the lowest ranked of the competitors in the round-robin competition.
It was a fantastic start for Johanna Konta on her debut, as she and Robson dished out a double bagel for the first time (for the GB team) in 11 years.
British number one, Heather Watson admitted to feeling nervous in her first match, but was delighted to get the first win under her belt.
The Brits face Portugal tomorrow, in the revised schedule, which sees play spill over to Sunday.
