Britain’s Fed Cup women have had another victorious day in their quest to reach the World Group play-offs after notching up another victory in this Round Robin tie.

However things did not go all their own way.

Laura Robson kicked things off in fine style with a convincing win over Margarida Moura, currently with a singles ranking of 975.

However, in a match that Watson should have rightfully expected to win, Portugal’s Michelle Larcher de Brito dominated the first set as she held the world number 41 at bay.

Larcher de Brito has been ranked as high as 91 but has struggled in recent years to regain that form, currently ranked 130.

There was some confusion as to who was due to play doubles, but it was Robson and Watson who took to the court, exacting some revenge on the partnership of Larcher de Brito and Joana Vale Costa, (with an apparent ranking of 9999!)

Their opponents tomorrow are Hungary, who have won all their matches so far, and will see Laura Robson possibly facing her tour doubles partner, Timea Babos.

The winners of Pool B will play the Pool D winners on Sunday, after the tie was delayed by a day, due to heavy rain.
