Daniel Brands /Igor Sijsling def Jamie Delgado/Tomasz Bednarek 6-2, 6-4

Jamie Delgado suffered first round disappointment in Dusseldorf today as he and partner Tomasz Bednarek lost to Daniel Brands and Igor Sijsling.

Dutchman Sijsling and home-favourite Brands dominated the first set of their clay-court match at the ATP250 Power Horse Cup, breaking twice to take it 6-2.

In the second set, Birmingham-born Delgado and his Polish partner fought back, and had far more success on their opponents serve, but failed to take any of the six break points they created.

In contrast, Brands and Sijsling took the one break point they generated and it was enough to win the set 6-4 and with it the match in 57 minutes.

Delgado is still searching for continuity since he and regular partner Ken Skupski decided to forge their paths separately and Delgado took a break to fix a long-standing back injury.

Though he and Bednarek, doubles specialists ranked 75th and 71 respectively, maybe disappointed with the defeat, there is no shame in losing to these opponents.

Brands and Sijsling are both top 70 ranked singles players with the latter is also top 60 in doubles.
