  • Ties to be played in the week commencing August 25th

The draw for the second round of the Capital One Cup was made last Thursday, with 12 Premier League clubs who are not involved in Europe, entering the competition.

The tie of the round sees Everton, looking to win the League Cup for the first time in their history, begin their quest for Wembley glory with a visit to Barnsley on Wednesday night.

The Toffees, twice runners-up, must confront the League One side that beat Scunthorpe in round one, while 2013 winners Swansea welcome League Two outfit York City to the Liberty Stadium.

Premier League new boys Bournemouth make the long journey north to play Hartlepool United, with Watford heading north-west for a tricky tie against Championship outfit Preston North End.

Tim Sherwood’s Aston Villa entertain Notts County in a West Midlands v East Midlands affair, while Crystal Palace host Shrewsbury Town at Selhurst Park and three-time winners Leicester City visit Bury.

West Bromwich Albion, who have not won the trophy since 1966, go head-to-head with Midland rivals Port Vale at the Hawthorns.

Stoke go to Luton Town, while Northampton travel to Newcastle, while staying in the North-east, Exeter will look to cause an  upset when they tackle troubled Sunderland at the Stadium of Light.
