Australian Open Day Nine Singles Results & Quick Hits

  • Following on from Mirjana Lucic-Baroni ending her Slam quarter-final drought, Venus Williams made the semi-finals of the Australian Open for the first time since 2003. She had to work for it against Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova who was trying to break her duck when it comes to advancing to the semi-final stage of a grand Slam. It looked as though she had the measure of the veteran American but Williams played the clutch moments just a little better.
  • Williams will face Coco Vandweghe in an all-American semi-final. The Californian, who stunned World No, 1 and defending champion Angelique Kerber did the same to a second 2016 Slam champion as she brushed 2016 French Open champion Garbiñe Muguruza
  • Stan Wawrinka surely emerges as one of the favourites in this decimated half of the draw, and he put the hammer down on Jo-Wilfried Tsonga with a straight sets win over the Frenchman.
  • Ensuring that it will be an all-Swiss final, Roger Federer breezed past Mischa Zverev in the first set, and endured a little wobble in the second set as the German finally found some range. [FINISH]

Day Ten – Schedule & Highlights

  • For Brits it is all about Johanna Konta and whether she can take the battle to Serena Williams. There is absolutely no reason to believe that she can’t as she explained in her press conference – she has no reason to be shy about any player as they have all gone through a similar journey.
  • Karolina Pliskova remains may a pundit’s tip for a maiden Slam this year, and why not here. She will look to end the fantastic run of former prodigy Lucic-Baroni.
  • On the men’s side, be sure to check out our preview below for our must-watch match between Rafael Nadal and the highest seed standing, Milos Raonic.
