  • The semi-finals are set after a ‘winner-takes-all’ end to the group stages where defending champion Agnieszka Radwanska extended her winning record over Karolina Pliskova
  • Angelique Kerber will face her in the semi-final, while story of the tournament Svetlana Kuznetsova has to stop losing streak against Dominika Cibulkova to advance

ATP Basel

  • Juan-Martin Del Potro fell to Kei Nishikori in the quarter-final – having soared 1000 spots higher than when he returned to the tour in February, he ran out of steam against the third seed giving Nishikori his first win over the Argentine.
  • Qualifier Misha Zverev stunned top seed Stan Wawrinka. After early success in the Basel tournament, Wawrinka had not found it a particularly happy hunting ground and snapped his five-tournament losing streak this time around.
  • Marin Cilic kept his Race to London hopes going with a win over Marcel Granollers and if he beats Zverev in the semi-finals, he will make the qualification cut after Rafael Nadal’s withdrawal.

  • After toying with fans with two three-setters in Vienna, Andy Murray coasted past John Isner to make the semi-final – where he will face defending champion David Ferrer, who he beat handily in Beijing, on the way to the title.
  • Nominee for Comeback Player of the Year, Ivo Karlovic out-aced qualifier and ATP Next-Gen-er Karen Khachanov in a tight three setter, saving a match point along the way.
  • He will face sixth seed Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in the semi-final, who will be aiming to make his first final of 2016.
